And in this case, conversations, like, “they bought Tesla – they have money”, are not accepted, since several tens of thousands of dollars for the machine to simply cease to be a discharged gadget on wheels, this is a lot for any person.

Anyone who has bought a car in order to drive it, and not sell it in a year or break it, may face such a situation. Modern electric cars, in general, have a significantly larger resource than their battery. Even Elon Musk said that his cars are designed for mileage up to one million miles (more than 1.6 million kilometers). This applies to all components except the battery. As a result, the battery dies before the car. So it will be with Tesla, so it will be with Porsche Taycan, so it will be with Jaguar F-Pace, so it will be with Audi e-trone, so it will be with everyone …

Prospects for the development of electric vehicles

For all my twofold attitude to electric vehicles, which I have already expressed more than once, they will sooner or later become our main means of transportation. Technology, of course, will go forward, and the first steps have been taken now.

The current generation of batteries in electric cars "walks" a maximum of 700-800 thousand kilometers. There is no doubt – this is not a little, but it is in ideal conditions, which means timely service, good exercise, a neat driving style, a sparing climate and much more. In any case, after 150-200 thousand kilometers, you can begin to face the first problems.

To combat this, the company that creates the current generation of batteries for Tesla, some time ago, began to develop a new generation of batteries that can withstand up to one and a half million kilometers. Here is the application!

Such batteries will be especially relevant not even for individual users who travel 20,000 kilometers a year, but for a taxi, including an automated, unmanned taxi. There really can be deployed.

What does the battery of the future look like?

If you think that the batteries described above exist only in the project, in the creator’s head, or, at worst, on paper, you are mistaken. The prototypes of the batteries are not just already created, but are already being tested in full.

According to the testers, the battery has already proven that it can provide an electric car with up to a million miles of service faithfully. This is at least twice as much as the current generation of batteries. Now work is underway to increase reliability and bring the prototype to an industrial design.

It looks like a new type of battery for Tesla

A battery is not something fundamentally new. This is the same Li-Ion battery from a single-chip cathode, but only a new generation. An additional contribution to the resource was made by a new type of electrolyte. During testing, experiments were conducted with different electrolytes, including those that support fast charging. The final version has not yet been selected, but they all showed themselves to varying degrees, and their creators will still opt for the best option.

Battery testing is carried out under different charging and load conditions. For example, the charge-discharge cycle was tested even at temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius. This is good and will allow you to use a car in California and even in Death Valley, which is the hottest point on the planet. What about negative temperatures? There is no answer yet.

Temperature studies have shown that batteries can normally work out 4000 charge-discharge cycles even at a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. Using Tesla's proprietary cooling system will increase the number of cycles by at least one and a half times.

Pros of a new generation of batteries

Above, I have already given an example of those who find it useful to have a longer battery life in his electric car. Let me remind you that these were taxi drivers. In addition to them, it can be said that more resource-intensive batteries will well take their place in commercial vehicles, such as trucks, loaders, and other machines that work from morning to evening, and even without stopping if the operators work in shifts.

All this will not only make electric cars more attractive, depriving them of one of the most significant disadvantages, but also popularize the idea of ​​electric transport as a whole. Just imagine how much more willingly public transport companies, taxi fleets and logistics companies will invest in “battery-powered transport”. Especially if the price of new batteries does not increase the cost of the final product.

And what are the prospects for home storage devices that accumulate the energy received by solar panels? So far, the cost of ownership, taking into account the resource, the cost of purchase and maintenance, does not greatly outweigh the traditional methods of generating electricity. If the batteries work many times longer, this will open up such prospects that it’s just uhhhhhh … Let's wait, but much will change soon. Just a battery, but it can change everything!
